Not only does the study of the Arts help bring about the formation of a virtuous soul, but its explicit focus on Beauty makes it one of the most enriching disciplines for a Classically educated student. It trains the eye to see Beauty, the mind to understand Beauty, and the heart to love truly beautiful things. Students of the fine arts become critical observers of the world around them, seeking harmony, balance, and loveliness. This training of the heart and soul is a central reason why students at ACA are exposed to the Arts throughout grammar school and are required to take a Fine art Elective in the early Upper School. At Ascent Classical Academies, teachers create their own lessons within the framework set by our content-rich curriculum, in collaboration with colleagues and in partnership with Hillsdale College's Barney Charter School Initiative. Teachers are responsible for mastering the key elements of their instruction and will exhibit dedication to the intellectual and moral betterment of their students. Ascent Classical Academies encourages teachers to take their own moral and intellectual improvement seriously as part of a supportive and excellence-driven culture. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in the subject matter, demonstrate high moral character and embrace the virtues of a democratic society. The successful candidate will also foster professional friendships with faculty and staff, seek collaborative relationships with parents, and mentor students in the pursuit of their own flourishing. Candidates require at least a four-year college degree. A teacher’s license is neither required nor preferred. Please include a cover letter, resume or curriculum vitae, a 400-500 word statement of educational philosophy demonstrating an understanding of classical education, and unofficial transcripts.
