Join Ascent Classical Academies as the network Director of Classical Curriculum and Instruction to support the development of the moral character and civic virtue of students in our affiliate schools, in their quest to pursue the Good, True, and Beautiful. The Director of Classical Curriculum and Instruction reports to the Executive Director.
Position Summary
Support the Mission and Vision of Ascent Classical Academy schools.
Support and advance the ideals of classical, liberal arts education and its value in the development and formation of young people.
Curriculum
Advise on and monitor the scope and sequence of the academic program.
Consult with Hillsdale College, teaching staff, headmasters, and other partners to improve the academic program based on the philosophical foundation of Ascent Classical Academies and the approach of the liberal arts.
Maintain the Upper School catalog of the courses offered across the Ascent Classical Academy network of schools.
Work with school-level headmasters to develop teacher training and professional development plans.
Develop and maintain curriculum maps used in the Grammar School.
Develop and maintain mapping of the ACA academic program to content and skills tested in the Classical Learning Test (CLT), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and other assessments, to identify and ensure students are exposed to concepts found on these assessments.
Instruction
Serve as a master teacher and mentor to instructional staff providing feedback on how to improve their craft.
In conjunction with campus headmasters, supervise, train, and develop grade level leads and department chairs.
Support teachers in how to improve their delivery of content, using direct or Socratic instruction, as appropriate.
Develop ACA network staff to identify and train subject matter experts in key areas, to include Access Literacy, Singapore Math, Core Knowledge, and other disciplines.
Ensure instruction and pacing is consistent within and across ACA schools.
Other
Maintain the Bill of Materials for all instructional materials required at ACA schools.
Work with other ACA staff to streamline the purchase of instructional supplies and materials.
Advise and assist in the development of offering a classical program in various other formats and setting, to include online, homeschool, and private school.
Develop partnerships with other organizations that support classical education and are aligned with the Mission and Vision of Ascent Classical Academies to enhance the impact of the organization.
Other functions as deemed necessary by circumstances.
Desired Qualifications
At least 5 years of classroom experience as a teacher in a classical school.
A Master’s degree or higher with at least a 4-year college degree.
Familiarity with the Ascent Classical Academy academic program, Core Knowledge Scope and Sequence, and the Hillsdale Barney Charter School Initiative.
